First Clip from Danny Boyle’s 127 HOURS Starring James Franco

     September 13, 2010

The first clip from Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours has gone online.  The film is about real-life mountaineer Aron Ralston who was forced to amputate his own arm after he became trapped under a boulder.  You won’t see that in this clip.  This clip is of a much happier time with Ralston (played by James Franco) swimming with two fellow climbers (played by Kata Mara and Amber Tamblyn).  Basically, there’s no need to worry about spoilers with this clip because they’re clearly holding on to the more intense stuff for later (although I’m pretty sure you can’t put footage of a dude cutting off his own arm with a pocket knife into an all-audiences approved trailer, so that’s probably safe from marketing).

Hit the jump to check out the clip.  127 Hours has been receiving highly positive notices as it travels the festival circuit. It’s currently playing at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and it will close out the London Film Festival.  It’s set to open domestically on November 5th.

Here’s the official synopsis for 127 Hours:

127 HOURS is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston’s (James Franco) remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah. Over the next five days Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage and the wherewithal to extricate himself by any means necessary, scale a 65 foot wall and hike over eight miles before he is finally rescued. Throughout his journey, Ralston recalls friends, lovers (Clemence Poesy), family, and the two hikers (Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara) he met before his accident. Will they be the last two people he ever had the chance to meet? A visceral, thrilling story that will take an audience on a never before experienced journey and prove what we can do when we choose life.
