‘24’ Revival Lands ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Breakout as New Lead

     January 25, 2016

After Fox revived 24 with a limited series run, subtitled Live Another Day, fans learned that the network was developing more episodes for the series. The bad news was that the possibility of Kiefer Sutherland sitting out was high. The decision was made official during the Television Critics Association, and now the network has decided who will pick up the reins. Being that it’s Corey Hawkins, it doesn’t seem to be such bad news after all.

Say goodbye to Jack Bauer. Say hello to Eric Carter. According to Variety, the Straight Outta Compton actor will play this new character in 24: Legacy, which, even though only a pilot has been ordered, it’s expected to land 13 episodes. So, who is Carter? According to a description picked up by EW, the new character is described as follows:

Strong and smart, Eric came from a very rough background and turned his life around in the Army Rangers. Now back home in Virginia with his wife Nicole, he’s pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him.

From the press release for the series, we also know that this trouble that follows him home will prompt Carter to “ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.”

The pilot will feature an all-new cast of characters (still to be announced) and it’s a big step for Hawkins. The Walking Dead fans will know him as Heath from Alexandria, but he’s been blowing up since his performance as Dr. Dre in F. Gary Gray’s N.W.A. biopic. While the film was snubbed at the Oscars, it received high praise from critics and fans alike. Now, as the 27-year-old actor is making a name for himself, he’ll also be seen in next year’s Kong: Skull Island — alongside his Compton co-star Jason Mitchell.
