’45 Years’ Trailer Previews One of 2015’s Best Performances

     October 14, 2015

Sundance Selects has released the first trailer for writer/director Andrew Haigh’s haunting marital drama 45 Years. The film stars Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay as a couple on the verge of their 45th wedding anniversary who are forced to reopen old wounds following a startling discovery. If you’ve seen Weekend or the HBO series Looking you’re no doubt familiar with Haigh’s style, and his sensibilities are incredibly on point here in what’s possibly his best work yet. As I said in my review of the film from the Toronto International Film Festival, 45 Years an intimate, emotionally charged portrait of a marriage that boasts one of the year’s best performances courtesy of Rampling. She is positively exquisite as the foundation of this marriage, and I expect she’ll be a major part of the impending Best Actress Oscar conversation.

Check out the trailer below. Again, I highly recommend seeking this out when it opens in theaters on December 23rd.

Here’s the official synopsis for 45 Years:

The winner of the Silver Bear for Best Actress (Charlotte Rampling) and Best Actor (Tom Courtenay) at the Berlin International Film Festival, Andrew Haigh’s (Weekend, Looking) film is a moving and profound look at marriage and the secrets we keep. There is just one week until Kate Mercer’s (Rampling) 45th wedding anniversary, and the planning for the party is going well. But then a letter arrives for her husband (Courtenay). The body of his first love has been discovered, frozen and preserved in the icy glaciers of the Swiss Alps. By the time the party is upon them, five days later, there may not be a marriage left to celebrate.
