Shea Whigham Joins Marvel’s AGENT CARTER Series as SSR Chief Roger Dooley

     September 23, 2014

Marvel’s Agent Carter is expected to begin production soon to prepare for a possible January debut, so the studio is busy loading up the cast.  We just found out that James D’Arcy is in as Howard Stark’s butler, Jarvis, and now Marvel just revealed that Boardwalk Empire’s Shea Whigham is on the roster as well.

The show takes place in 1946 and follows what happens when the men return home from war and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) gets relegated to administrative duties at the SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve).  Hit the jump to find out who Whigham will portray on the show.

hayley-atwell-marvel-agent-carterMarvel just broke the news that Whigham will play SSR Chief Roger Dooley. According to Marvel’s description, he’s “tough but fair-minded” and is in charge of overseeing Agent Carter, Agent Jack Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) and Agent Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj).

We don’t have much information on what Murray and Gjokaj’s characters are all about, but D’Arcy’s Jarvis is said to be an ally to Carter.  There was also that image from Peggy Carter’s 1940s flashback in the first episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 with Kenneth Choi’s Jim Morita and Neal McDonough’s Dum Dum Dugan by her side, but there’s still no word on whether or not they’ll make their way onto Agent Carter as well.

As for Whigham’s character, I don’t know much about the comics, but according to the S.H.I.E.L.D. member Wikipedia page he was a “Level 4 officer who usurped Dum Dum Dugan’s rank and used the Helicarrier to capture She-Hulk,” so perhaps he won’t be the noblest member of the SSR.

Here’s the official description of Agent Carter:

“Marvel’s Agent Carter,” starring Captain America’s Hayley Atwell, follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life–Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” along with the short “Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.”
