‘Agents of SHIELD’ and ‘Agent Carter’ Panel Recap | NYCC 2015

     October 11, 2015

The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter panel was packed to the brim with “Marvel Zombies” clamoring for some new information regarding their two ABC stalwarts. The panel, moderated by head of the Marvel television division Jeph Loeb, a writer for both Marvel and DC before he led the charge on Marvel’s recent television endeavors, revealed some new tidbits about Agent Carter and answer some questions about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and its third season, currently in full swing. Loeb kicked the event off by asking the audience who was “Team Carter” and who was “Team S.H.I.E.LD.”, with S.H.I.E.L.D. edging out Carter, until it fully took the win when Agent Coulson himself, Clark Gregg hit the stage.

While none of the cast could make it to Comic Con from Agent Carter, they did deliver a humorous message to the audience, stating that they were currently in L.A. filming, before comically smacking into a fake landscape behind them. Following their departure, Howard Stark (played by Dominic Cooper) pushes a broom behind them. From here, Loeb announced numerous new cast members that will be joining the show in season 2 of Agent Carter including Wynn Everett as Whitney Frost (Marvel villainess Madame Mask), Reggie Austin as Dr. Reggie Wilkes, Currie Graham as Calvin Chadwick, and Lotte Verbeek as Jarvis’ wife, Ana.

At one point, Jarvis pulls a lever, causing the driver’s seat to slam backward in a humorous scene.

Following this, Clark Gregg returned to the stage and began the question and answer section of the panel. The first question involved the Inhumans, the super powered Marvel race who are now a huge part of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and how Gregg felt when he first heard they were going to be introduced into the show. Clark responded that the first question he asked the showrunners was whether or not he would turn out to be Black Bolt, the king of the Inhuman race. Gregg then mentioned that the story that the Inhumans presented to the series was an interesting one in that they are considered so strange and simply wrong for having the abilities that they do that it allowed for an in-depth study of discrimination and the human condition. Really though, Gregg was simply “geeking out” over the prospect of the Inhumans joining their team as it’s allowed him to see some “really mind-blowing stuff”.

The next question, which was another relating to the Inhumans, revolved around which member of the core team would be the most interesting to be revealed to be an Inhuman. Gregg passed the question along to Jeph Loeb, who informed the audience that they should stay tuned to this third season, and mentioned that Fitz’s scene at the end of the first episode of season three is something to watch again. The theme of this season will be exploring humanity as a whole, and at this point, we still don’t really know “who or what the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are.”

The next, and final question, of the night revolved around whether or not mutants, and the X-Men, would be making an appearance this season (obviously someone hasn’t been doing their homework). As Loeb attempted to address the question, Gregg took the reins and joked that mutants were trapped in a “terrifying realm” he dubbed, “The Copyright Zone”. He then stated that perhaps someday “we’ll all live in a peaceful world where all the characters of fandom may interact”. Gregg put a bow on the proceedings by disappointingly asking, “so no Deadpool crossover this season?”

Finally, while the pair stated they had no new footage to spare (as episodes are filmed an hour before they air, Loeb joked), they did show, in its entirety, the upcoming third episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which will be airing a little later this week. Look for our recap of this episode to drop on Tuesday night.
