“They say when the rider burns you, he burns your soul,” a voiceover tells us about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s most touted new cast member, Ghost Rider, who will be played by Gabriel Luna. Though ABC moved the Marvel series to the Tuesday night at 10pm ET death slot (typically not a robust night for ratings), it’s leaning in hard to fan interest over the advent of Ghost Rider, and what may be the only flaming skull walking around on television. Let’s hope the budget for this is right, or it could go so, so wrong.
If you aren’t familiar with Luna, he was the charismatic lead in El Rey’s series The Matador, and most recently showed up (in an under-written part) in Discovery’s Harley and the Davidsons miniseries. And while Ghost Rider does have a duel nature that includes Robbie Reyes, I think it’s pretty clear that we’re all in it for the flaming skull part — apologies, Luna!
In the new teaser trailer, which is similar to one released a few days ago, but extended, Daisy (Chloe Bennett) says “You don’t get to decide who deserves to die.” Reyes replies “I’m not the one who decides.”
“The Ghost Rider is a completely separate thing from Robbie,” Luna had said of the character. “It’s something that always inhabits his body and something that he always has to fight. It’s an evil thing. That’s what they have maintained in the writing.” Check out the new teaser below:

Luna also recorded a message for fans introducing himself, and reminding everyone when to tune in to the new episode:
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to ABC for its Season 4 debut “The Ghost” on Tuesday, September 20th at 10pm. And if you haven’t already seen it, check out Kayti Burt’s recent feature on why S.H.I.E.L.D. is becoming the X-Men TV show we’ve been waiting for.
