‘Alien: Covenant’ to Feature Katherine Waterston as Female Lead

     December 17, 2015

The Prometheus sequel that was once known as Alien: Paradise Lost before undergoing another change to become Alien: Covenant may have secured its female lead. Katherine Waterston is being reported as starring opposite Michael Fassbender, who returns as the android David after surviving the events of the 2012 space adventure, Prometheus. Elizabeth Shaw, as played by Noomi Rapace, also survived that picture but if Waterston’s casting is any indication, this film won’t be following Shaw’s story, at least not in the main plot.

The Wrap reported that Waterston has been cast as the female lead of Alien: Covenant, but other plot details are scarce at this point. This film will serve as an on-screen reunion for Waterston and Fassbender; she played Chrisann Brennan, the mother of Steve Jobs’ first child Lisa Brennan-Jobs in Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs. Waterston has been making her appearances on screen since the mid-2000s, turning in roles in Tony Gilroy’s Michael Clayton, Jake Schreier’s Robot & Frank, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice to name a few.

And while Waterston’s star is certainly on the rise with this new casting announcement, she’ll get a chance to introduce herself to a whole new set of fans when her role of Porpentia Goldstein in David Yates’ Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is unveiled late next year. Without giving anything away, let’s just say that the character is quite the important one as far as that film’s protagonist is concerned.

Here’s the synopsis that’s being reported for Alien: Covenant so far:

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
