After the billion-dollar worldwide success of Alice in Wonderland, Disney is digging through their animated vaults for inspiration, including a live-action edition of Cinderella.  Currently, the rumor mill suggests that Amanda Seyfried possesses the foot upon which the glass slipper fits, and has signed on to star in the remake.

Disney reportedly paid seven figures for the pitch from Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada), though not much is known yet on what her take on the material is.  More after the jump:

Amanda SeyfriedIf the rumor — courtesy of gossip site In Case You Didn’t Know (via The Playlist) — turns out to be true, the young actress seems like a great fit.  Seyfried’s turn in Mamma Mia launched her career to a new stage, and she’s been working hard this year to establish a presence in Hollywood as a female lead with moderate successes Dear John and Letters to Juliet.  Her next official project likewise finds her at the center of a fairy tale in The Girl with the Red Riding Hood under the guide of Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight).

Alongside Cinderella, Disney is also developing an update on Sleeping Beauty (entitled Maleficent) under the rumored team of Tim Burton and Angelina Jolie.

Here’s the synopsis for the 1950 animated film:

Disney’s adaptation of the beloved fairy tale became a classic in its own right, thanks to some memorable tunes (including “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo,” and the title song) and some endearingly cute comic relief. We all know the story–the wicked stepmother and stepsisters simply won’t have it, this uppity Cinderella thinking she’s going to a ball designed to find the handsome prince an appropriate sweetheart, but perseverance, animal buddies, and a well-timed entrance by a fairy godmother make sure things turn out all right.
