Amazon Releases New Set-Top Box “Amazon Fire TV”; Streams Amazon Instant, Netflix, Hulu Plus, and More

     April 2, 2014

There are multiple ways to get Amazon Instant.  I personally have it on my Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3; it even comes pre-installed in a lot of wireless TV sets.  This helps Amazon’s streaming business in terms of not only rentals, but also leading people to buy a subscription to Amazon Prime, which allows users to stream a selection of movies and TV series for free.  However, the company has been missing out on a share of the profits.  They have the content, but their ownership of a distribution platform as extended only so far as their tablet devices.

The company is changing that today with the release of Amazon Fire TV.  The slim set-top box has a wide array of channels including standards like Netflix and Hulu Plus.  It retails for $99, which is the same price as Apple TV, the product’s closest rival.  So for consumers, the question is, “Do you prefer Apple or Amazon?”  Each has a few distinctions over the other like Apple TV having HBO Go and Amazon.  Click here to check it out on Amazon.
