First AMERICAN CRIME STORY Pictures Reveal Cuba Gooding Jr. as O.J. Simpson

While Ryan Murphy’s television career thus far has been squarely set within specific genres like the musical Glee, the “horror” American Horror Story, and the upcoming horror-comedy Scream Queens, he’s now setting out to tackle something wholly different: true crime. American Crime Story is a new anthology series set up at FX, executive produced by Murphy and his partner Brad Falchuk, as well as Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Scott Alexander, and Larry Karaszewski. The idea is to take on famous true crime stories, and the first season’s topic is decidedly Ryan Murphy-esque: American Crime Story: The People V O.J. Simpson.

The first images from the series have been unveiled, and they’re certainly something. Cuba Gooding Jr. fills the role of Simpson, and the rest of the main cast includes Sarah Paulson as head prosecutor Marcia Clark, John Travolta as defense attorney Robert Shapiro, David Schwimmer as defense attorney Robert Kardashian, Courtney B. Vance as the infamous Johnnie Cochran, and Billy Magnussen as witness Kato Kaelin.

Murphy is directing the first two episodes, but unlike his other series, American Crime Story was written by Alexander and Karaszewski (The People vs. Larry Flynt) instead of himself and Falchuk. Alexander recently described the show as “a hoot” and from his comments, it sounds like the angle of the series is that the trial became must-see TV as coverage started pulling soap operas off the air and dominated watercooler conversation.

Anyway, take a look a the first cast images below, via FX. American Crime Story: The People V O.J. Simpson debuts sometime in early 2016.
