Amy Adams, Carey Mulligan and Samantha Morton Eyeing Spike Jonze Film

     February 1, 2012

Back in October, we reported that Carey Mulligan (Shame) was circling a new, untitled Spike Jonze project starring Joaquin Phoenix (Gladiator) and written by Charlie Kaufman (Adaptation). Now, however, it looks as if two other actresses are eyeing the role. Samantha Morton (The Messenger) and Amy Adams (The Fighter) are both reportedly in discussions to star opposite Phoenix in a film financed by Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison. Details are few and far between but past synopses suggested the satirical film was about a gathering of world leaders meeting to discuss global events from the changing price of oil to the timing of wars. Deadline reported spike-jonze-project-carey-mulliganon Morton and Adams’ interest in the role. Mulligan, who had been most closely related to the project, has most recently been seen in the acclaimed films Drive and Shame. She can next be seen in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby and is currently filming Inside Llewyn Davis for Joel and Ethan Coen.

Morton, who starred in Kaufman’s Synecdoche, New York will be seen in the upcoming Disney production of John Carter. Also featuring Morton, the Robert Pattinson-starrer Cosmopolis and the Steven Bernstein-directed Decoding Annie Parker which are currently in post.

Equally as busy in 2012, Adams will be featured as Lois Lane in Man of Steel and is reportedly starring opposite Clint Eastwood in Trouble with the Curve. At this point, it’s difficult to say who, if any, of these talented actresses will take the leading role in the next project by Jonze.
