‘Arrow’ Season 5 Trailer Assembles a New Vigilante Team

     September 28, 2016

Ahead of Arrow’s return next week, The CW dropped a brand-new trailer — and it’s the best one we’ve seen yet.

The series sparked the network’s small-screen universe of DC heroes, but it’s since been watered downed with a focus on the supernatural, including the magically minded Damian Darhk and Ra’s Al Ghul’s Lazarus Pit. The cast and crew have been teasing a return to the elements that made season 1 great — in other words, laying off the superhuman theatrics, and focusing instead on character drama, and vigilante and psychological warfare. That’s very much the case with this new season 5 trailer, which sees Mayor Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) assembling a new team of masked street fighters since Thea (Willa Holland) retired her cowl and Diggle (David Ramsey) re-enlisted.

Watch the trailer below, courtesy of Amell’s Facebook page.

The trio of street fighters includes Evelyn Sharpe (a.k.a Artemis, played by Madison McLaughlin), Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez), and Curtis’ “Terrific” ascension to vigilante status. But there’s also a new villain on the scene: Tobias Church (Chad L. Coleman), who’s all about spreading fear.

Also featured in the new season will be Josh Segarra as Vigilante, Joe Dinicol as Ragman (spotted in the trailer), Wil Traval as Human Target, and Dolph Lundgren as one of the big Russian bads.

Arrow returns on October 5th at 8 p.m. on The CW. Here’s the premiere’s synopsis:

After Laurel’s death and the departures of both Diggle and Thea from Team Arrow, Oliver takes to the streets solo to protect Star City’s citizens as the Green Arrow. With Felicity guiding him from the bunker, Oliver is forced to deal with a city that has become overrun with both criminals and a slew of new (and painfully inexperienced) vigilantes. Watching Oliver try to balance his jobs as both the mayor and also the protector of Star City, Felicity suggests he form a new team, but Oliver resists. However, when a deadly new criminal, Tobias Church (guest star Chad L. Coleman), enters the picture, Oliver realizes the best thing for the city might be a new team of superheroes. Meanwhile, the flashbacks take us to Russia where Oliver faces off against the Bratva.
