‘Arrow’ Season 5 Trailer Teases New Junior Vigilantes

     July 23, 2016

At the end of Season 4, Team Arrow found itself falling apart, and even losing one of its own. In the first Season 5 trailer, we see Oliver (Stephen Amell) looking to rebuild by training up some new vigilantes, some of whom are new cast members, and some of whom are familiar (like Echo Kellum‘s Curtis Holt).

The sizzle reel kicks things off by reminding us of how Oliver defeated Damien Darhk, the standing on the car, all of that (not those nukes, though — the less said about that the better). But more importantly, it gave new shading to Laurel’s (Katie Cassidy) advice to Oliver to stop trying to go it alone. She wasn’t talking specifically about Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), it seems, so much as a whole new team.

That team will include Evelyn Sharp (Madison McLaughlin), who had previously pretended to be Black Canary while Laurel was alive to get revenge on H.I.V.E., as well as Renee Ramirez (Rick Gonzalez ) as Wild Dog (you can read more about Wild Dog’s comic origins here). Check it out below:

Is that Ragman at the end there? (Some are saying Prometheus but he looks, well, rather raggedy). And why are they training at what looks like the remnants of H.I.V.E.’s facility?

There have been a lot of complaints about the direction Arrow has gone in lately (Craig Byrne detailed some of that for us in his recent piece on how Arrow needs to go back to its roots), but it seems like — from this trailer at least — the show is trying to stay a little more grounded, and is even incorporating a little more humor.

Of course, there’s also the Russian fight club (though with a decent wig for Oliver), and other things that make one question where things are headed, although Amell has promised us a more vicious and violent premiere directed by the show’s great stunt coordinator, James Bamford. We’ll find out soon! In the meantime, let us know what you think of the trailer.

Arrow returns to The CW October 5th.
