We’ve already received our first look at Michael Fassbender dolled up as his Assassin’s Creed character, Callum Lynch, but a new photo has been revealed online. The only thing is that the actor decided to show off the backside of his costume, though there are a few tidbits worth noting.
The image comes from Fassbender’s production company DMC Film, which is working with 20th Century Fox and Ubisoft. We see the actor facing a wall in a grey costume next to a sign that reads, “Progress requires sacrifice.”

His garb, though still largely hidden from view, is reminiscent of game character Jacob Frye’s time-traveling look — sans his signature hood, of course. Elsewhere, three marks evoking a triangular symbol can be seen poking out from the back of his neck. Gamers will note that the insignia of the Assassin’s Order is also a triangle. The symbol has appeared in many iterations, and some modern-day characters incorporated it as a tattoo.
While we still don’t know much about the plot of the Assassin’s Creed movie, the presence of Callum, a new character, reiterates departures made from the source material. Though this is just speculation at this point, it seems tattoo remains a constant between the game and the film.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for Assassin’s Creed:
Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
The film began shooting in August under the direction of filmmaker Justin Kurzel, who already worked with Fassbender and his Assassin’s Creed co-star Marion Cotillard on Macbeth.
Assassin’s Creed will be released on December 21, 2016.
