We’ve seen Michael Fassbender in costume for Assassin’s Creed. We’ve seen the back of his neck (it’s more interesting than it sounds) in a behind-the-scenes pic. Now, it’s time to drool over some of the weapons he could be wielding in the film. Azaïzia Aymar, head of Assassin’s Creed content for Ubisoft, has been tweeting out photos from the set of the game-to-movie adaptation, and it’s he who we all should be thanking for the latest look.
“Those Abstergo guys just love Templars,” Aymar tweeted along with photos of two medieval swords. In the Assassin’s Creed game, Abstergo Industries is a multinational corporate conglomerate and a front for modern day Templar activities. This seems to confirm that Abstergo will also play a part in the film.

While one of the swords features a cross on the hilt, you’ll notice the other is sculpted into the bust of an elderly, bearded man. If you’re wondering who that is, Aymar has an answer for that, as well: Hugues de Payens. Born in France, he was a co-founder and the first Grand Master of the Knights Templar. He also co-wrote the Latin Rule, the Templar’s creed.
Justin Kurzel, who directed Fassbender in Macbeth, continues to film Assassin’s Creed ahead of its release on December 21, 2016. Rounding out the main cast are Marion Cotillard (another Macbeth-ian), Brendan Gleeson, Jeremy Irons, Michael K. Williams, and Ariane Labed.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
