‘Back to the Future’: Watch Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd Reunite in New Toyota Ad

     October 14, 2015

The Back to the Future trilogy is one of the seminal franchises of our time. It’s endured for nearly three decades now, and enthusiasm for the series is stronger than ever. And despite false memes spreading for the past few years, 2015 marks the actual year that Marty and Doc traveled to in the slightly underrated Back to the Future Part II. Sure things are a little different than the film predicted—cars are still grounded, for one—but it actually did kind of OK. To mark the occasion of Marty and Doc’s “arrival” on October 21st, a number of reunion events have been planned, including a brand new film! Okay, so it’s not exactly another sequel, but franchise stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd partnered up with Toyota for a new promotional video in which they discuss what Back to the Future Part II got right—and wrong—about the year 2015.

Setting aside the fact that yours truly tackled this very subject at length earlier this year, it’s kind of delightful to see Lloyd and Fox sitting across from one another again, however briefly. Toyota says the “full film” will be available on October 21st to coincide with the release of their Mirai hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (spoiler alert: it doesn’t fly), but it’s unclear if that will be Back to the Future-centric or more of a straightforward ad for the new car.

In any event, check out a teaser spot below in which Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd talk about newfangled technology, like fax machines.
