Behind-the-Scenes Video for BATMAN LIVE and First Look at the Batmobile with Vehicle Blueprint

     June 16, 2011

Do you need your Batman fix, but can’t wait until July 20th, 2012 to see if this potential spoiler for The Dark Knight Rises proves correct? Well, if you can hold on for about a month and get yourself over to the UK, the Batman Live: World Arena Tour will be kicking off a full year before The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters (those of us stateside will have to wait until August 2012 for the tour).

Batman Live promises to be a unique experience that combines live-action stunt work, a compelling coming-of-age story centered on Robin and more villains than you could ever cram into a Nolan film. Earlier this year, we brought you a slew of images from the show’s media launch performance. Now, a behind-the-scenes video of the cast and creative team rehearsing their fight scenes has landed online as well as the first look at the new Batmobile, created just for this show by Formula One race car designer, Gordon Murray. Hit the jump to check both out and to read over a blueprint of Bats’ new ride.

Here is the behind-the-scenes video of the stunt training, which includes stick fighting and hand-to-hand group fighting [courtesy of Twitter user @BatmanLiveSpy]:

And now for something a little more recognizable from the Batman universe, here is a promotional picture of the new Batmobile made exclusively for Batman Live: World Arena Tour [click to enlarge]:

Here is a short video that has more dynamic lighting than a Mercedes-Benz commercial. The F1 inspiration is pretty apparent, but at first glance it looks like the thing would get rocked by Nolan’s version of the Batmobile, the Tumble [from the Batman Live homepage]:

Finally, in case you needed to know the exact schematics of the Batman Live Batmobile, we have for you the vehicle’s blueprint thanks to Geek Syndicate [click to enlarge]:

This looks like something I drew up as a kid, imagining all the gadgets I’d stock my own personal Batmobile with. It’s got a sleek, stealth design with sonar sensors to navigate in the dark and a radar jammer to avoid detection. It’s got frickin’ lasers in the frickin’ headlights! It can go from superspeed to hyperspeed (units of speed not included) in two seconds! And, maybe the best part in today’s Green society, this Batmobile is powered by a hydrogen generator. Because how awkward would it be to run out of gas (or petrol, if you will) when chasing down criminals?

All kidding aside, Batman Live: World Arena Tour looks like it’s made out of pure fun, a non-Frank Miller comic book brought to life. And though it’s depressing to know that Nolan probably won’t make another Dark Knight film, I, for one, will be looking forward to seeing the lighter side of Batman.
