Winona Ryder Likely to Return for BEETLEJUICE 2

The Beetlejuice sequel is officially happening, and it sounds like much of the band is getting back together.  Tim Burton initially commissioned a sequel by screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows) to see if there was a story worth telling, and it would appear that Burton sparked to the scribe’s take on a follow-up given that he recently entered talks to direct Beetlejuice 2 as his next project.  Michael Keaton is also onboard to reprise his role as the titular fast-talking ghoul, and now Winona Ryder has hinted that she’ll be in the film too.  Hit the jump to see what she had to say about the sequel, which takes place 27 years after the first film.

“I’m kind of sworn to secrecy, but it sounds like it might be happening.”

The actress went on to confirm that the pic will involve a real-time jump from the original, taking place nearly three decades after the events of the first film:

“It’s not a remake, it’s 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later.”

Ryder, who was 17 when Beetlejuice was released, also noted that she would not be returning for the follow-up if Burton and Keaton weren’t involved:

“I would never go near [a sequel] if it was not Tim and Michael,” she said. “Because those guys, I love.”

Burton most recently wrapped production on the drama Big Eyes starring Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz, which will be released next year.  If things continue to move forward smoothly, filming on Beetlejuice 2 could feasibly commence later next year.
