Ben Affleck Disses DAREDEVIL; Explains Why BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE Will Be Better

     October 6, 2014

When Ben Affleck was announced to play Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the news was met with the inevitable uninformed backlash.  Part of this backlash came from the fact that Affleck’s previous superhero movie, Daredevil, wasn’t good, and therefore he must be kept away from all superhero movies whatsoever until the rest of time.  While Affleck doesn’t sympathize with these people, he does recognize that Daredevil kind of sort of sucked.

During an appearance on NRP’s All Things Considered, Affleck said “Indeed I have regrets about Daredevil,” and “Look, if I thought we were remaking Daredevil, I’d be out there picketing myself.”  He explained that his frustration came from “exacting standards” and “I want to do excellent work and I don’t always succeed, but I think you have to start out with that drive.”  Hit the jump for what he says drove him to play Batman.  Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice also stars Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Jason Momoa, Holly Hunter, Scoot McNairy, and Jeremy Irons, and opens on March 25, 2016.

Sorry, Daredevil writer-director Mark Steven Johnson.  You are not a talent sandwich.

Affleck also went so far as to call out other superhero movies saying that when it came to the genre, “I thought it would be nice to make one of these movies really, really good.”

Hopefully, that will be the case.  And if not, we can hear him rag on Batman v Superman in 11 years.
