Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, and Ben Affleck Set to Close Out SNL in May

     April 26, 2013

Saturday Night Live is closing out their 2012-2013 season strong, bringing back three SNL veterans to host.  Previously announced for the May 4th show was Zach Galifianakis, who has The Hangover Part III coming out next month as well.  Galifianakis has hosted SNL before, and I can only hope he brings out his chops singing Annie again.  SNL has had plenty of opening monologues that involved singing this year, but I can’t help but think that Galifianakis is going to have a stand out one regardless.  The musical guest will be Of Monsters and Men.  Hit the jump for more on the episodes hosted by Kristen Wiig and Ben Affleck.

ben-affleck-saturday-night-liveFormer SNL cast member Kristen Wiig, who left the show after seven seasons last year, will be returning to host on May 11th with musical guest Vampire Weekend.  Wiig had an amazing standout career with SNL, more often than not being the only prominent female performer in the main cast.  Prior female cast members like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph often make fantastic hosts, so I have the highest of hopes for her.  Some people may be grumbling at the thought of Wiig wheelhouse characters such as Gilly and Penelope returning, but you can’t knock a talented throwback.

Ben Affleck will round out the season, hosting the May 18th season finale with the always lovable Kanye West as the musical guest.  Affleck has hosted five times before.  The actor/director is definitely more known for his dramatic film career, especially with his recent Best Picture win for Argo, but I’m excited to see him stretch his comedic chops as well.  I can only hope he calls up friend and collaborator Matt Damon to pop in as well.

Here’s the full press release:
