Benedict Cumberbatch to Star in BLOOD MOUNTAIN

     January 28, 2014

Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness) has added another film to his busy schedule with the thriller, Blood Mountain.  Now before you get confused, no, this is not a retitling of Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak, which previously had Cumberbatch attached before Tom Hiddleston replaced him.  Blood Mountain is a new thriller penned by Jonathan W. Stokes (The Last Hurrah) with revisions by John Romano (The Lincoln Lawyer) in a 3:10 to Yuma-type tale which finds a special forces member escorting a most-wanted terrorist through hostile territory to bring him to justice.  Hit the jump for more.

Variety reports that benedict-cumberbatch-the-imitation-gameCumberbatch has joined Blood Mountain.  Here’s their reported logline:

The film follows a private military contractor whose special forces team is ambushed and killed during a covert raid, forcing him to personally escort one of the world’s most wanted terrorists over hostile terrain in order to bring him to justice. With a bounty at stake and insurgents and rival mercenaries hunting them, the two find themselves facing not only their enemies, but each other in their fight for survival.

Directed by Sergei Bodrov (Mongol), Blood Mountain is set to start production in Morocco this April.  As for Cumberbatch, he currently stars in the third season of Sherlock alongside Martin Freeman, the two of whom will be seen (or heard, in Cumberbatch’s case) in The Hobbit: There and Back Again later this year.  He’ll also star in Morten Tyldum’s The Imitation Game some time this year, as the Alan Turing biopic is awaiting a domestic release date.
