‘Black Panther’ Recruits Forest Whitaker, Daniel Kaluuya & ‘Civil War’ Standout Florence Kasumba

     October 7, 2016

Hot damn, the Black Panther cast just doesn’t quit. Academy Award-winning actor and all around on-screen delight Forest Whitaker is the latest tremendous talent to join the already impressive cast roster, as well as Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out) and Florence Kasumba (Captain America: Civil War). In addition to Chadwick Boseman, who made his impressive debut as the titular Wakandan king, spiritual figure, and superhero in Civil War, Ryan Coogler‘s hugely-anticipated follow-up has also lined up Michael B. Jordan as the villainous Killmonger, Andy Serkis as Age of Ultron’s low-tier baddie Ulysses Claw, and Winston Duke as a key villain M’Baka, nee “Man-Ape”.

Not much is known about Whitaker’s role in Black Panther, but he will play Zuri, an elder statesman of Wakanda. Presumably, he’s filling the Tommy Lee Jones in Captain America/Robert Redford in The Winter Soldier/Michael Douglas in Ant-Man role of respected veteran actor who brings prestige to the superhero spectacle. I certainly hope he’s playing a good guy because T’Challa has got his hands full with villains.

Fortunately, he’s also got Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia — a member of his personal guard the Dora Milaje. Kaluuya and Kasumba will also play allies to T’Challa. Kasumba reprises her Civil War role as the total badass Dora Milaje warrior who was ready to trade blows with Black Widow, while Kaluuya will play T’Challa’s confidante W’Kabi.

While we’ve yet to receive an official synopsis of where we find T’Challa after the events of Civil War, here’s what Nyong’o had to say about the story back at Comic-Con:

The story is that the Black Panther’s leadership is really threatened by two foes who come together, and so Black Panther gets the help of the C.I.A. and the Dora Milaje to try and defeat the enemy.

Black Panther opens February 16, 2018 and also stars Danai Gurira. For more of the latest Black Panther news check out the links below.
