Exclusive: ‘Black Sails’ Season 3 Featurette Previews the Battle for Nassau

     October 19, 2015

War is upon us — specifically, war over Nassau. The fight will commence when Black Sails returns for season 3. According to co-creator and executive producer Jonathan E. Steinberg, the ensuing war of England has been simmering since we first met the pirates. But that’s not all the events that are coming to a boil. Today we’re happy to present an exclusive featurette, previewing all the swashbuckling action to come.

Starz released the first trailer and poster for season 3 of the Emmy-winning series earlier this month, but now we’re diving deeper into the story. A harsher Captain Flint (Toby Stephens), for one, is hellbent on maintaining the island of Nassau, on which his pirates have built a home. This struggle will become more apparent as outside forces take shape.

One of them is Blackbeard (Thor actor Ray Stevenson). Going by the name Edward Teach, the infamous pirate is said to return to the island in order to settle unfinished business. As a former mentor of Charles Vane (Zach McGowan), he finds the island in an unfamiliar state. Meanwhile, Woodes Rogers (Luke Roberts) wants to restore commerce to Nassau, even if that means coercing Eleanor (Hannah New) to reveal its secrets. Check it all out in the exclusive featurette below.

Here’s the official season 3 plot synopsis from Starz:

In the wake of Charles Town, the world lives in fear of Captain Flint. But when his campaign of terror crosses over into madness, it falls to John Silver to locate the man within the monster. Meanwhile, with Eleanor Guthrie gone, Jack Rackham and Captain Charles Vane struggle to secure Nassau for the ages. All will be tested when a new threat arrives. It knows them. It understands them. And in the blink of an eye, it will turn them against each other.

Black Sails will bow in January 2016, but the cast will return to South Africa before the year’s end to start filming season 4.
