If you’re a fan of sequels to 30-year-old science fiction films that also happen to star Harrison Ford, today has got to be a damn solid entry in your blessed little week. Ryan Gosling is now in talks to star in Alcon Entertainment’s upcoming Blade Runner sequel. The nature of his character is being kept under wraps, but expect him to share some screentime with the returning Ford (still playing Rick Deckard, which flies in the face of the accepted theory that he is a replicant).
As we learned a few months back, Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve will direct Blade Runner 2 from a script by Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original film) and Michael Green. The film is set several decades after the events of the original movie. Ridley Scott will serve as executive producer. While I think the first Blade Runner is a high watermark in sci-fi aesthetic, I also think it’s kind of boring. Hopefully Villeneuve, Fancher and Green have something interesting up their sleeves. Principal photography will commence in the summer of 2016.
How many of you guys are stoked for a Blade Runner sequel? Gosling is a fine addition to almost any movie, but I’ve gotta take a wait and see approach on this one.
