Noam Murro Set to Direct Heist Thriller BLINK

     January 29, 2015

Atlas Independent has tapped 300: Rise of an Empire director Noam Murro to direct the Black List script Blink.  Written by Hernany Perla, the film centers on a paraplegic man who was fully paralyzed during an unsolved bank robbery. Years later, he is taken hostage for the secrets in his head and must outwit his captors to solve the mystery of the heist…with only the use of his eyes.

That’s a tough sell, and I’m intrigued to see how they handle a story in which the main character can basically do nothing. Of course, we’ve seen films in which paraplegic protagonists carry the story, but generally those fall into the realm of heavy dramas like The Diving Bell and the Butterfly or My Left Foot. It’s hard to picture how that conceit will translate into a thriller, but Murro has an energetic aesthetic and with the right actor in the lead role it could be an engaging thriller.  Blink is set to begin production this summer.

LOS ANGELES, CA, JANUARY 29, 2015 – Atlas Independent, the affiliate company of Charles Roven’s Atlas Entertainment, has tapped Noam Murro to direct The Black List script BLINK by Hernany Perla. Murro recently directed Warner Bros.’ 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE starring Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green and Lena Headey, which opened #1 at the box office and went on to gross over $337 million worldwide. Production is slated to begin this summer, with Atlas Independent’s William Green and Aaron Ginsburg producing with Atlas Entertainment’s Jake Kurily.  Highland Film Group (HFG) will introduce the film to international buyers at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.

Years after being left fully paralyzed during an infamous, unsolved bank robbery, a man is taken hostage for the secrets in his head. With only the use of his eyes, he has to outwit his captors and solve the mystery of the heist.

Noam Murro said: “I’m excited to be collaborating with Atlas Independent in realizing this world and its unconventional hero. Hernany has written a thrilling script.  It’s a story about a unique individual who finds himself reinvigorated after he’s forced into this incredible life-threatening scenario.”

Atlas Independent’s William Green continued: “We wanted a director to match the script’s intensity. Noam blew us away with his passion and vision and we can’t wait to unleash BLINK in Berlin.”

Murro has received eight DGA nominations and won twice in 2005 and 2011 for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials.  He made his feature debut in 2009 with Miramax’s critically acclaimed film SMART PEOPLE starring Dennis Quaid, Thomas Hayden Church, Sarah Jessica Parker and Ellen Page.

Murro is represented by CAA and Management 360. Perla is represented by Madhouse Entertainment and Original Artists.
