Amazon Renews BOSCH For Season 2

     March 18, 2015

It has taken some time, but Amazon Prime is starting to build up hype and critical acclaim for its library of original series. Transparent was its first hit, but it looks like crime drama Bosch is also building a lot of momentum regarding viewership numbers.

According to THR, Bosch — based on Michael Connelly‘s best-selling series about an LAPD detective — has set records for Amazon, giving the streaming service its biggest debut weekend ever. Further, Bosch was the most-watched title on Prime Instant Video for the first four weeks after it premiered.

It’s no wonder, then, that the series has been renewed for a second season, which will be based on two more of Connelly’s best-selling novels: Trunk Music and The Drop. In Season 2, Bosch will be investigating the murder of a Hollywood producer who also laundered money for the mob. He’ll also be pursuing the serial killer Chilton Hardy, which will take him to Las Vegas, and have an impact on his personal life.

When I reviewed the series, which stars Titus Welliver as the title character, I mentioned that fans of hard-boiled cops and old-school police tactics should love Bosch. Connelly developed the series alongside The Wire‘s Eric Overmyer, and that same, gritty, truthful storytelling of his other series is also very present in Bosch (the actors, too — Daniels working with Marlo? Forsooth!)

Ultimately, the best thing about a series like Bosch is that it doesn’t try to alter the format or idea of a cop show, or futz with old formulas in new ways. It just relies on the good writing, pacing, and the gripping central story of a great crime novel. Bring on Season 2.

Bosch, which also stars Jamie Hector, Amy Aquino, Lance Reddick and Sarah Clarke, is currently available on Amazon Prime Instant Video.
