Brad Bird and John Lasseter – Exclusive Video Interviews

     October 30, 2007

Earlier today I participated in video interviews with all the key people who made the brilliant, amazing, phenomenal, exceptional movie that is “Ratatouille.” In case you couldn’t put it together, I think the movie is an absolute work of art. It’s written and directed by Brad Bird, who’s previously made “The Incredibles” and “The Iron Giant” – two films that I love and adore.

Anyway, the reason for these new video interviews was to help promote next weeks DVD and Blu-Ray release of the movie. While I didn’t get a chance to try out the review copy that Disney sent us, I’ve heard that it’s loaded with extras and it hasa stunning transfer.

So the interviews below are with Brad Bird and John Lasseter – two men who’ve created and influenced countless future filmmakers with their imagination and genius. Can you tell that I’m a fan?

During our interviews we talked about “Ratatouille,” and of course I tried to get them to talk about the future Pixar projects. I think both interviews came out great, but before you watch the Brad Bird interview, you may want to read this one.The reason is thatearlier this summer, before “Ratatouille” came out, I interviewed Brad and we reference the interview quite heavily during this new one. And it’s not that you can’t enjoy the new one without the old one…. it just makes the new one that much better.

And if you’d like to watch some clips from the “Ratatouille,” here’s a link to an article from earlier this summer. Again, “Ratatouille” is one of my favorite films of the year. I cannot recommend it enough.

Brad Bird

  • I ask a question that ties into the original junket when he was promoting it.
  • Does he think he hit a home-run with the film?
  • How does he feel to have a huge hit in France?
  • 1906 talk.
  • Brad calls me crafty….
  • Wall-E – what does he think about it and how is it going.

John Lasseter

  • Did he always know Ratatouille would be a big hit?
  • What challenges did they have to overcome to make Ratatouille
  • Wall-E – what challenges did they have to overcome to make that film – he said it’s their first sci-fi movie and it’s all about a robot.
  • I ask about 1906 and Brad Bird
  • I get him to confirm that Brad Lewis is directing a movie at Pixar – they have not announced this yet.
  • And he talks traditional 2D animation at Pixar and at Disney
