BROADCHURCH Renewed for Season 3

     February 24, 2015

Though American viewers have not (officially, anyway) been able to watch Broadchurch‘s second season, THR is reporting that Britain’s ITV series has been renewed for a third.

Despite Fox’s Gracepoint experiment (of making an American version of a show that was widely available already for American audiences via Netflix and BBC America) — which was a flop — its mothership Broadchurch continues to gain traction across the pond and soon, probably here as well, starting March 4th.

broadchurch-imageA statement from ITV confirms that both David Tennant and Olivia Coleman will return for Season 3 as detectives Alex Hardy and Ellie Miller. Series creator Chris Chibnall will also be on board, as well as the current production team.

Chibnall said of the renewal,

We’ve been overwhelmed that nine million people every week have continued to join us on the twists and turns of Broadchurch. This third chapter has been a glint in my eye for a long time, and I’m thrilled to be writing these characters once again.

American fans may want to temper our excitement, though, as the second season has only drawn mixed reviews during its U.K. run, which is finishing up now. Still, with the heartbreak and beauty of Season One still in our minds, it’s hard not to get excited for what that second chapter of Broadchurch will bring (for those of us who have not yet watched the second season via occult means, that is …).

Broadchurch Season 2 will premiere on BBC America March 4th at 10 p.m. You can watch the teaser trailers, or check out the full trailer to see what is in store:
