CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR: Emily VanCamp Will Return as Agent 13

     May 6, 2015

Just when you thought the Captain America: Civil War cast couldn’t get anymore jam packed, here comes a new addition. Deadline reports that Emily VanCamp will return as her character “Kate” AKA Agent 13. The character debuted in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent ordered to protect Cap who turned out to be a trustworthy ally. This comes on the heels of Marvel’s announcement that geek favorite Martin Freeman (Sherlock, The Hobbit) is joining the film in an undisclosed role.

For those of you who’ve lost track, the lineup for Civil War currently includes Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), as well as Chadwick Boseman’s debut appearance as Black Panther, Daniel Bruhl as the villainous Baron von Zemo, and the new Spider-Man, who has yet to be cast.

In the comics, Agent 13 is in fact Sharon Carter, the niece of Steve Rogers’ lost love Peggy Carter. Though Sharon shared some nice moments with Cap in The Winter Soldier, that fact has yet to be revealed in the films. Given the amount of ground there is to cover in Civil War, it’s astonishing to think they might have the time for a storyline that’s looking in reverse. But if Avengers: Age of Ultron proved anything, it’s that Marvel can fit a hell of a lot in a single movie. Of course, they might have all new plans for Agent 13 in the MCU, so we’ll just have to tune in and see how VanCamp factors into larger plans.

Joe and Anthony Russo are currently filming Captain America: Civil War in Atlanta for a May 6, 2016 release date. You can catch up on all things Civil War here, or check out our latest stories below.
