‘Captain America: Civil War’ Concept Art Shows Ant-Man Was Once Team Iron Man

     August 23, 2016

One of the highlights of Captain America: Civil War is when Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) becomes Giant-Man, and Team Iron Man has to figure out a way to take him down. They do it by breaking out a little Empire Strikes Back and having Spider-Man (Tom Holland) swing around Giant-Man’s legs to bring down the superhero.

But early in the film’s production, they didn’t know if they were going to be able to get Spider-Man from Sony, and so the teams came out differently. Artist Andy Park released a piece of concept art from Civil War and it shows Captain America (Chris Evans) squaring off against Giant-Man. That’s a big change from the movie where Ant-Man was completely on Cap’s side. I’m not exactly sure what explanation they would have used to get Ant-Man on Iron Man’s side (Ant-Man laid the groundwork of Scott Lang having a relationship with Falcon, who would presumably still be Team Cap no matter what), but then again, Ant-Man just seems happy to be asked to join the party, so I doubt they would have to do narrative gymnastics to get him against Captain America.

However, as we all know, Marvel was able to land Spider-Man, Ant-Man went Team Cap, and the result was a thrilling action scene. That being said, I would love to see more concept art from the film when it was in its pre-Spidey incarnation.

Check out the concept art below [via CBR], and click here to see a deleted scene from Captain America: Civil War. The film hits Digital HD platforms and the Disney Movies Anywhere app on September 2nd; the film will be available on Blu-ray, DVD and on-demand on September 13th.
