CHILD 44 Releases Three New Posters Featuring Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, and Gary Oldman

     March 25, 2015

Lionsgate has released three new Child 44 posters. Based on the novel by Tom Rob Smith, the film takes place in 1953 Soviet Russia and stars Tom Hardy as Leo Demidov, a secret police agent who is exiled to a provincial outpost when he refuses to denounce his wife, Rasia (Noomi Rapace). While working at the outpost, he and Raisa team up with General Mikhail Nesterov (Gary Oldman), and must investigate a string of child murderers that are being covered up by the government.

I’m not sure why this movie is flying so low under the radar. It’s got a great premise, the trailer looks solid, and it’s got an excellent cast. While I wasn’t a fan of director Daniel Espinosa’s previous movie, Safe House, I’ve got some hope for Child 44, and maybe it will be a nice bit of counterprogramming as we charge into blockbuster season.

Check out the posters below. Child 44 opens April 17th, and also stars Joel Kinnaman, Paddy Considine, Jason Clarke, and Vincent Cassel.

Here’s the official synopsis for Child 44:

A politically-charged serial killer thriller set in 1953 Soviet Russia, CHILD 44 chronicles the crisis of conscience for secret police agent Leo Demidov [Tom Hardy], who loses status, power and home when he refuses to denounce his own wife, Raisa [Noomi Rapace], as a traitor. Exiled from Moscow to a grim provincial outpost, Leo and Raisa join forces with General Mikhail Nesterov [Gary Oldman] to track down a serial killer who preys on young boys. Their quest for justice threatens a system-wide cover-up enforced by Leo’s psychopathic rival Vasil [Joel Kinnaman], who insists “There is no crime in Paradise.”
