‘The Quay Brothers in 35MM’ Trailer Teases Tour, Christopher Nolan’s Short Film

     August 11, 2015

While filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s canvas has now become so large that it’s unlikely he’ll ever go back to the scale of a feature film like Memento again, for his follow-up to his most ambitious film yet, Interstellar, Nolan actually did shift to an incredibly small scale—albeit in the form of a short film. Nolan has directed a short called Quay, which is a documentary about the filmmaking duo The Quay Brothers. Identical twins Stephen and Timothy have carved out a niche in the stop motion animation world with films like In Absentia and The Comb, and Nolan is apparently such a fan of their work that he took it upon himself to chronicle their oeuvre in documentary form.

In anticipation of the short film’s limited release starting with a one week run at New York City’s Film Forum on August 19th, Zeitgeist Films and Syncopy are putting together a national tour of select Quay Brothers films curated by Nolan. Each stop on the The Quay Brothers – On 35MM tour will consist of a 70-minute program including three short films by the duo plus Nolan’s short film Quay, all of which will be presented exclusively in 35mm. Then on October 20th, The Quay Brothers: Collected Short Films will be released on Blu-ray, which will also include Nolan’s short.
