‘Close’: Noomi Rapace and Director Vicky Jewson on the Interesting Way They Edited the Film

     January 20, 2019

With Close now streaming on Netflix, I recently sat down with Noomi Rapace and director Vicky Jewson to talk about the action-thriller. If you haven’t seen the trailer, Close features Noomi Rapace as a battle-hardened bodyguard who is tasked with protecting a pampered mining heiress (Sophie Nelisse). As you might imagine, things don’t go as planned and the duo is forced to go on the run while they navigate who is pursuing them and survive. Close also stars Indira Varma and Eoin Macken.

close-poster-netflixDuring the interview, Rapace and Jewson revealed the interesting way the movie was edited, how they wanted to capture real life, where the cool idea to have Noomi shoot the person below the car come from, the way the script/story changed during the development process, what they learned from early screenings that impacted the finished film, which sequence made Noomi nervous before filming began, and a lot more.

Check out what they had to say in the player above and below is exactly what we talked about followed by the official synopsis.

Noomi Rapace and Vicky Jewson:

  • Where did the idea come from to have Noomi shoot the person below the car?
  • On trying to capture real life in the film.
  • How did they first meet and were they nervous before the meeting?
  • How did the script/story change during the development process?
  • On trying to make something original and not something you’ve seen before.
  • What did they learn from early screenings that impacted the finished film?
  • What sequence before filming began was Noomi nervous to film?
  • What is coming up for both of them?

Here’s the official synopsis for Close:

Close, an adrenaline-pumping action thriller written and directed by Vicky Jewson (Born of War), is inspired by the life of the world’s leading female bodyguard, Jacquie Davis. The film stars Noomi Rapace as Sam, a counter-terrorist expert used to war zones, who takes on the job of protecting Zoe (Sophie Nélisse), a young and rich heiress — a babysitting job for her. But a violent attempted kidnapping forces the two to go on the run. Now they’ve got to take some lives — or lose theirs.
