the-perfect-guy-posterWell it’s Monday which means it’s time for our weekly box office report brought to you by our friends at AMC Theatres. It was an extremely close race for the #1 spot at the box office this weekend but the new film The Perfect Guy captured the top spot by just $1 million dollars, taking in a reported $26.7 million. Coming in second place is the new M. Night Shyamalan thriller The Visit bringing in $25.7 million. In the #3 position is the faith based film War Room making an additional $7.4 million. In fourth place is the Robert Redford/Nick Nolte film A Walk In The Woods making $4.6 million, and rounding out the top 5 is the Tom Cruise film Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation adding an additional $4.1 million to bring  it’s worldwide total up to $613 million dollars.

As many of you know the upcoming Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is set for release on May 5th, 2017 and work is now underway. According to director James Gunn, pre-production is now underway in Atlanta where Gunn is now living for the next 10 months through the pre-production and shooting of the film. The original Guardians of the Galaxy made over $774 million at the worldwide box office and the original cast are all expected to return.

It has been confirmed that a third installment of the Jeepers Creepers horror franchise is coming to the big screen. Writer/director Victor Salva is returning to the franchise for the third time and in a recent interview had this to say about the new film: “Writing and directing a new ‘Jeepers’ film, the first in over a decade, is incredibly exciting for me and I believe for ‘Jeepers’ fans all over the world that have been asking for more. What will go before cameras as ‘Jeepers Creepers 3′ is a new and terrifying chapter from the ‘Jeepers’ universe. We are bringing back the Creeper’s truck, and will be addressing the big questions about The Creeper: what it is, where it came from and why it does what it does.”

As many of you know, director Steven Spielberg is currently gearing up to shoot his film Ready Player One based on the popular novel of the same name. Actress Olivia Cooke has landed the role of Art3mis! Cooke has appeared in such films as Me, Earl and the Dying Girl, The Quiet Ones and Ouija. Set in the near future, Ready Player One follows outcast teenager Wade Watts, who escapes from his bleak surroundings by logging in to the Oasis, a globally networked virtual utopia where users can lead idyllic alternate lives. When the eccentric billionaire who created the Oasis dies, he offers up his vast fortune as the prize in an elaborate treasure hunt. Along with gamers from around the world, Wade joins the adventure, and quickly finds himself pitted against powerful corporate foes and other ruthless competitors who will do anything, in the oasis or the real world, to reach the treasure first.

The next Marvel universe film Captain America: Civil War is set to hit theatres on May 6th and one of the lingering questions many fans have is if Captain America will die at the end opening the door for Bucky Barns, AKA the Winter Soldier, to become the new Captain America. In a recent interview with We Got This Covered, actor Sebastian Stan was asked if he would like to be the new Captain America to which he said the following: “No, I really wouldn’t, let me tell you, I think about that every day. It’s so not up to me, and to be honest I really enjoy my job over there, I’m really happy going to work and doing what I do. I love the character that I have.”

TJ Hardin writes: Hey Collider! Big fan of your shows. I never miss it. Been wondering something for awhile now. With all the big things that have been going on with Star Wars like the new episodes, Rebels and the anthology films. I was thinking why hasn’t Paramount done something similar with Star Trek and their universe on the large and/or the small screens? With the 50th anniversary coming next year, do you see them ever considered them doing anything like what Disney is doing with Star Wars? Thanks guys and keep up the great work.

Lorenzo Molezzi writes: My question is regarding the Hardcore The Movie – starring Sharlto Copley. I haven’t seen any news on Collider about this film and would like to know your thoughts on it. I think it has just been released. From the trailers it looks really interesting. [Editor’s note: Read Perri’s review from the Toronto International Film Festival right here.]

James Vasquez writes: Hey Collider gang! I’ve started noticing that AMC theaters is dropping AMC Gold passes for a new AMC Green pass. My complain about this is that not only is this pass $1 more than Gold, but it will not let you see any movies distributed by the Walt Disney Company. Why would AMC be making a move like this? I have always used AMC Gold tickets as a cheaper way to watch movies, but now it looks like I’m going to have to pay full price for roughly half of the movies I see in theaters. Thanks for your time and keep up the good work.
