First CRIMSON PEAK Trailer Reveals Guillermo del Toro’s Gothic Horror Film

     February 13, 2015

Universal and Legendary Pictures have released the first Crimson Peak trailer, poster, and new images for writer/director Guillermo del Toro’s latest film. The gothic horror romance takes place in a massive house that “breathes, bleeds…and remembers”, and revolves around an aspiring author who is torn between the love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious soldier.

I kind of love everything about this trailer.  It goes heavy on a gothic romance that gives off a bit of a Jane Eyre vibe, although that could be because it’s a period piece with Mia Wasikowska playing a character who falls in love with an older gentleman.  But then it starts to unleash not just supernatural horror (although that provides a “Holy Shit” moment at the end of the trailer) that’s reminiscent del Toro’s The Devil’s Backbone, but also a psychological horror emanating from the personal relationships between the characters.  I cannot wait to see this movie, especially since it looks like del Toro has returned to his roots but done so with a larger canvas.

Check out the Crimson Peak trailer below along with the poster and images . The film also stars Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, and Charlie Hunnam. Crimson Peak opens in regular theaters and IMAX on October 16th.
