If the spirit of the holiday season is truly about two grown men competing in a series of physical challenges and games of one-upmanship, then Daddy’s Home might just be your new favorite festive film. A new trailer for the Sean Anders and John Morris-directed comedy plays up the conflict between a freeloading father played by Mark Wahlberg and a well-meaning step-dad in Will Ferrell. The first trailer, released on Father’s Day, introduced their family feud, but the new one shows just how far each of the men are willing to go to impress their kids.
Although Ferrell and Wahlberg are re-teaming on the big screen, I’d temper your expectations for this picture being a spiritual successor to Adam McKay’s The Other Guys. Take a look at Anders and Morris’ filmography, which includes script work for comedies like Sex Drive, She’s Out of My League, and Horrible Bosses 2, in order to get a better angle on what type of comedy you’ll find in Daddy’s Home. There are certainly sure to be plenty of laughs to find, but since the comedy is currently unrated, it’s hard to know if the humor will follow the themes of Anders and Morris’ previous films, or if the Christmas Day-release is going to tone down the antics, with a heavy emphasis on slapstick and silliness for family-friendly dollars.
