John Krasinski Joins Cameron Crowe’s Untitled Romantic Comedy; Damian Lewis Joins Nicole Kidman in QUEEN OF THE DESERT

Here’s today’s casting news:

  • John Krasinski (Promised Land) is in talks to join director Cameron Crowe’s untitled romantic comedy.  The rest of the all-star cast includes Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, Danny McBride, Jay Baruchel, Alec Baldwin and Bill Murray.
  • Damian Lewis (Homeland) is nearing a deal to star in writer-director Werner Herzog’s Queen of the Desert, which stars Nicole Kidman as Gertrude Bell, “the iconic explorer, writer, archeologist and attaché for the British Empire, who is credited with helping to catalyze the formation of the Middle East at the dawn of the 20th Century.”

john krasinski First up from THR, Krasinski is in talks to join Crowe’s romantic comedy that follows a “defense contractor (Cooper) who falls for an Air Force pilot (Stone) after he’s assigned to oversee the launch of a weapons satellite from Hawaii.”  Krasinski would star as “a military man married to McAdams, who is playing Cooper’s ex-wife.”

Deadline reports that Lewis is close to a deal to star in Queen of the Desert.  Lewis would play “Lieutenant Colonel Charles Doughty-Wylie, an unhappily married English war hero who engages in a turbulent affair with Gertrude Bell (Kidman), with whom he exchanged love letters with from 1913-1915 until he was killed in active duty at Gallipoli.”  Production on Queen of the Desert is scheduled to begin this December.  The project previously starred Naomi Watts in the role of Bell and had Jude Law and James Franco attached at different times..  Robert Pattinson was also attached to play T.E. Lawrence, of Lawrence of Arabia fame.
