Will Dan Harmon Return to COMMUNITY for Season 5? [UPDATED: Moses Port and David Guarascio Officially Out]

     May 27, 2013

After labeling himself a liability that NBC wasn’t willing to keep around, Community creator Dan Harmon left the show before its fourth season.  Now that the network has greenlit a fifth season of the community college comedy, there’s a rumor that Harmon has been asked back to the show in some capacity.  The only confirmation seems to be from Harmon himself in an offhand comment during a recent episode of his podcast, Harmontown.  As TV Line reports, Harmon let the news slip, thought about editing it out and then said: “Ahhh Fuck it. I don’t care who knows!” according to a writer for Hollywookiee.

It remains to be seen whether there’s any truth to the rumor and, if there is, to what capacity Harmon could return: it may be as the consulting producer position that was previously offered to him, though he ended up turning that down.  Community is poised to return to NBC mid-season as their fall line-up is full with the return of Parks and Recreation and the new comedies Welcome to the Family, Sean Hayes’ Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show.

[Update: Deadline reports that season four showrunners Moses Port and David Guarascio have officially opted not to return for season five, and both Harmon and former writer/producer Chris McKenna have been approached about rejoining the show for what is expected to be the show’s final 13 episode run.]
