David S. Goyer: Sci-fi Author?

David Goyer image.jpgDavid S. Goyer made waves last week when he left the television series he was showrunning, FlashForward, to begin collaborating with Jonah Nolan on the next installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman series. His next project? A three-book science fiction book series to be published by Ace Books, an imprint of Penguin Publishing. Already hailed for his work on The Dark Knight and pilloried for his efforts on The Unborn, Goyer decided to join up with fellow novelist and screenwriter Michael Cassutt (The New Twilight Zone) and make his long-gestating dream a reality.

The first book in the trilogy, Heaven’s Shadow, is set to debut in July 2011 and will be followed by Heaven’s War and Heaven’s Fall. According to Variety, the plot is your basic giant-object-hurtling-towards-earth disaster. This time the conceit is that when rival teams of astronauts head into space to prevent the impending cataclysm they discover alien forces on the satellite. It should be noted that if the books sell well, they could be coming to a screen near you. Literary agency, Writers House, which reps both Goyer and Cassutt will own the film rights. Writers House has been on a hot streak recently, securing film deals for Twilight, The Blind Side and Coraline. Should a film version be made, I fully expect both Morgan Freeman and Aerosmith to play a crucial role in the marketing of it. (via Variety)
