‘The Defenders’: First Set Photos Show Jessica Jones Squaring Off Against Misty Knight

     November 1, 2016

Filming is underway on Marvel and Netflix’s The Defenders, the vaunted team-up movie that will bring Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) together to face off against a threat posed by a yet-to-be-revealed character played by Sigourney Weaver. While we’ll probably get some more details on the show once Iron Fist airs in early 2017, right now we’ve got the first set photos from the show, which show Jessica being held at gunpoint by Misty Knight (Simone Missick).

I’m hoping that Misty gets a better character arc in Defenders than she did in Luke Cage. While the character was interesting the first couple of episodes, she was slowly revealed the incompetent, irritable, and ultimately a damsel that needed saving by Luke. It was a disappointing trajectory for a promising character, and hopefully The Defenders can turn that around.

You can also see from these images that Jessica is a little worse for wear, and while she does have super-strength, she must have just faced someone or something that could deliver a bit of a beating.  I’m also curious to see if The Defenders will take an Avengers route where our superheroes fight each other before teaming up to take on an evil that none of them can stop solo.  I don’t think Luke Cage would fight Jessica again, Daredevil is tough but he probably can’t harm Luke or Jessica, so that just leave a misunderstanding between Jessica and Iron Fist, although I’m willing to bet that her injuries here are from a non-Defender.  Keep in mind that the show is only eight episodes, and while I’m glad Netflix is being more economical (all of their shows could stand to be shorter), that also means there’s not a lot of time to waste on unnecessary conflicts.

Check out the images below. The Defenders debuts in 2017, and also stars Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Eka Darville as Malcolm, and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page.
