In further television casting news today, Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis have been confirmed for the CBS period drama based on Ralph Lamb, a 1960s rodeo cowboy turned Las Vegas sheriff. Quaid will star as Sheriff Ralph Lamb himself, while Chiklis will star as Johnny Savino, a Chicago mobster with visions of transforming Las Vegas for financial gain. Needless to say, the two characters don’t see eye to eye. Quaid and Chiklis will also be co-executive producers on the project for screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi (American Gangster) and Without a Trace executive producer, Greg Walker. James Mangold (Walk the Line) will direct the pilot.

In other small screen casting news, comedienne Lily Tomlin has signed on to co-star in Reba McEntire’s new comedy pilot for ABC. Hit the jump to see who she’ll be playing.

THR reported lily-tomlin-reba-mcentireon the cast additions of Quaid and Chiklis to the Ralph Lamb project. If picked up, the series would mark Chiklis’ return to television after No Ordinary Family and would also be Quaid’s first foray into a television series (not counting his HBO miniseries, The Special Relationship).

THR also reported on Tomlin joining the untitled Reba McEntire comedy. The music-driven project, from Reba scribe Kevin Abbott, centers on McEntire’s character who divorces her cheating rockstar husband and packs up her three kids to start a new life in Malibu. Tomlin, who will co-star as McEntire’s mother, is taken along for the ride and attempts to inspire McEntire to restart her singing career while helping to keep the Nashville-raised children from being corrupted by the Malibu lifestyle. The series will be directed by John Pasquin.
