Dev Patel was great in “Slumdog Millionaire” and I wish him all the best in the future. Sadly, that ‘best’ may not come in his near future as he’s signed on to star in M. Night Shaymalan’s adaptation of the popular Nickelodeon anime series “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. Patel is playing a role originally held by pop star Jesse McCartney but McCartney’s career as a “musician” interfered. Hey, I’m not judging the kid. Whatever he had to do to get out, good for him. Says Shaymalan, “”Jesse had tour dates that conflicted with a boot camp I always hold on my films, and where the actors here have to train for martial arts,” Shyamalan said. There was martial arts training on “The Happening”? I’d buy that. Certainly wasn’t any time for acting lessons.

Patel will play Zuko, a member of the Fire Nation which is good because I don’t think I’d buy him as a member of the Aryan Nation. Maybe Live Nation. Perhaps even Tarnation. I’m not sure of the plot and while I’ve heard surprisingly positive things about the show, I would tell all the fans to brace themselves for crushing disappointment. Also, don’t be eye-in’ my lemon drank.
