We here at Collider have a few new exclusive images and a new poster to debut for the upcoming comedy Dirty Grandpa. Directed by Dan Mazer (co-writer on Borat), the Lionsgate film stars Zac Efron as a straight-laced lawyer who is tricked into driving his foul-mouthed grandfather (Robert De Niro) to Daytona for spring break. As we saw in the latest red-band trailer, the film is very much R-rated, with De Niro spewing reams of profanity throughout the film’s runtime. While the road trip genre isn’t anything new, I’m pretty confident the mismatched team up of Efron and De Niro will feature some outrageous scenes that will push some boundaries.
Take a look at the new photos and teaser poster below. The film also stars Aubrey Plaza, Julianne Hough, Zoey Deutch, Jason Mantzoukas, Danny Glover,Dermot Mulroney and Adam Pally. Written by John Phillips (Bad Santa 2), Dirty Grandpa opens in theaters on January 22nd.
Here’s the official synopsis for Dirty Grandpa:
Jason Kelly [Zac Efron] is one week away from marrying his boss’s uber-controlling daughter, putting him on the fast track for a partnership at the law firm. However, when the straight-laced Jason is tricked into driving his foul-mouthed grandfather, Dick [Robert De Niro], to Daytona for spring break, his pending nuptials are suddenly in jeopardy. Between riotous frat parties, bar fights, and an epic night of karaoke, Dick is on a quest to live his life to the fullest and bring Jason along for the ride. Ultimately, on the wildest journey of their lives, “dirty” Grandpa and his uptight grandson discover they can learn from one another and form the bond they never had.
