Principal photography has started today on a couple of interesting productions.  Here they are at a glance:

  • Therese, formerly known as Therese Raquin, is an erotic thriller starring Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Oscar Isaac (Drive), Tom Felton (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and Jessica Lange (American Horror Story).
  • Graphic novel adaptation, The Scribbler, also started production with Katie Cassidy (Taken) set to star.

Hit the jump for much more on both projects.

elizabeth-olsen-thereseBased on Emile Zola’s sensational novel, “Therese Raquin,” Therese is set to film in Belgrade, Serbia and Budapest, Hungary.  Olsen stars in the 1860s Paris-set thriller as the titular character, a beautiful but sexually repressed young woman trapped in a loveless marriage with Camille (Felton), her sickly cousin.  Forced into the relationship by her controlling aunt, Madame Raquin (Lange), it comes as no surprise that Therese begins a torrid affair with her husband’s friend, Laurent (Isaac) that climaxes with tragic consequences.  Written and directed by Charlie Stratton, Therese also stars Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), John Kavanagh (HBO’s The Tudors), Mackenzie Crook (Pirates of the Caribbean), and Matt Lucas (Bridesmaids).

The Scribbler has also begun production in downtown Los Angeles with Cassidy toplining as the title character in the mind-bending thriller.  Based on Daniel Schaffer’s graphic novel, The Scribbler follows “Suki (Cassidy), a young woman confronting her destructive mental illness using “The Siamese Burn”, an experimental machine designed to eliminate multiple personalities. The closer Suki comes to being “cured”, she’s haunted by a thought… what if the last unwanted identity turns out to be her?”

The Scribbler, directed by John Suits (Breathing Room), also stars Garret Dillahunt (Winter’s Bone), Michelle Trachtenberg (Gossip Girl), Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse), Gina Gershon (Killer Joe), Michael Imperioli (The Lovely Bones), Billy Campbell (The Killing) and Sasha Grey (The Girlfriend Experience). Rounding out the supporting cast are Ashlynn Yennie (The Human Centipede), Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory), and T.V. Carpio (Limitless).
