FANTASTIC FOUR Behind-the-Scenes Footage Reveals Major Subplot Cut from the Film

     August 10, 2015

20th Century Fox’s Fantastic Four is certainly one of the most fascinating superhero films in years, but maybe not for the right reasons. It took us a long good while to see anything official from the movie, but most took this as a sign that Fox and director Josh Trank were going in some radical new direction with the comic book adaptation, so the studio wanted to make sure they introduced this world to audiences in exactly the right way. It turns out they may have been worried about much more than marketing at the time, as this weekend word began to surface about the creative struggles, production troubles, and post-production issues that plagued the film up through its disappointing release.

Anyone who’s seen the movie can surely tell which scenes were part of the extensive reshoots thanks to Kate Mara’s not-so-great wig, but given how pervasive these reshot scenes appear to be, folks are no doubt curious to see the footage that didn’t make the final cut of the film.

Some b-roll footage from Fox gives us a look at a few scenes that didn’t make the final cut, and some of them hint towards a major plotline that was removed from the film. As you’ll see in the video, a crude version of the Fantasticar at one point played a role in the film, with Reed (Miles Teller), Johnny (Michael B. Jordan), and Sue (Kate Mara) riding around in the vehicle and possibly even taking it to the other dimension. It looks like a “homemade” version of the car, which leads me to believe that this was what Reed was originally working on while in hiding, possibly attempting to use the vehicle as a means of returning to Planet Zero and trying to reverse what happened to the quartet. Since this weekend’s reporting suggests we’ll probably never get to see the initial cut of the film pre-reshoots, this could be our first and only look at this particular prop.
