FAST & FURIOUS 7 Rumor: Paul Walker’s Brother Cody to Step in and Film Final Scenes

     December 13, 2013

I hate reporting on news stories peripherally related to actor Paul Walker’s tragic death as much as the next guy, but when it comes to the logistics of how James Wan and the cast of Fast & Furious 7 will move forward with production, we’ll make an exception.  About a week ago, we reported that Universal had indefinitely suspended production on the film, along with the news that Walker had only filmed about half of his allotted scenes and had yet to film some of the major ones.  Then, it looked like screenwriter Chris Morgan was revising the script to work around Walker’s death.  Now, a new rumor states that Walker’s younger brother, Cody, will step in to film the final scenes.  Hit the jump for more.

fast-and-furious-6-paul-walkerToday’s kinda creepy Fast & Furious 7 rumor comes via Daily Mail, so take it with a grain of salt.  Cody, the 25-year-old former stunt actor, could conceivably step in to film Paul’s scenes, especially those “from behind and at distance and if it’s a shot they need Paul’s face in close up they can CGI it later on.”  That could be a tad morbid for the CG artist assigned to morph Cody Walker’s face into that of his deceased brother, but the show must go on!

This is still squarely in the rumor category as we’ve heard no official word one way or the other.  Even if the offer was made to Cody, it sounds as if he’s on the fence about whether or not to cooperate:

‘If Cody agrees it’s because he wants to honor his brother’s memory. There are many details that still need to be worked out, but right now the family and cast and crew are all still grieving.’

Universal has also reportedly been working closely with Walker’s family to make sure the handling of the Brian O’Conner character, and his likely exit from the franchise, is tastefully done.
