FAST & FURIOUS 7 Gets Fighter Ronda Rousey; Judy Greer Eyed for TOMORROWLAND; Penn Badgley Lands CYMBELINE & Mimi Rogers Takes to THE SURFACE

Variety reports that ronda-rouseyRound One of Fast & Furious 7 casting announcements goes to UFC star Rousey.  The UFC/Strikeforce champion and Olympic medalist has entered into early negotiations to join the picture, following in the footsteps of another renowned female fighter, Gina Carano (Haywire, Fast & Furious Six).  Rousey also landed a spot in The Expendables 3 and will shoot both action films back to back before jumping into 45 straight days of training for her championship rematch against Mischa Tate on December 28th.

Deadline reports that Greer may join star George Clooney for a third time (Three Kings,The Descendants) in Tomorrowland.  She would join a cast that includes Hugh Laurie and Britt Robertson.  The plot of the Damon Lindelof-scripted picture remains under wraps.  Greer will next be seen in the Carrie reboot this fall and is currently filming on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Also from Deadline, Badgley has joined Cymbeline, a modernized Shakespeare adaptation centering on a secret marriage and a resulting war.  In the original play, Posthumus (Badgley), raised as a son by King Cymbeline (Harris), secretly marries the monarch’s daughter and is subsequently banished, leading to war.  Almereyda’s version works in biker gangs and dirty cops, as you do.

From the press release concerning Rogers in The Surface:

The film is about “two strangers, each at the end of their rope, who suddenly meet in the middle of the unpredictable waters of Lake Michigan following a small plane crash.  The Surface is currently in production in Milwaukee.
