Charlie Day and Ice Cube in Talks to FIST FIGHT for New Line

     June 9, 2015

Charlie Day (Pacific Rim, Horrible Bosses) and Ice Cube (Ride Along, Barbershop) are in talks to star in the comedy Fist Fight for New Line Cinema.Per Deadline, the script penned by Van Robichaux and Evan Susser is envisioned as a grown up version of the 80s cult hit Three O’Clock High. Ice Cube plays a teacher who challenges his mild-mannered colleague (Day) to an after school fist fight when he suspects the timid English teacher is trying to get him fired.

21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Billy Rosenberg and Max Greenfield are set to produce, with Dan Cohen overseeing for the company. Negotiations are still in early stages for a planned September start date.

This could be an excellent bit of casting if the script is right. These two couldn’t be more of an odd couple pairing, and I could easily see them having killer on-screen chemistry. Ice Cube is a legitimately intimidating guy and the idea of him and Day facing off in a fist fight is rife with comedic possibilities. As we’ve seen recently in Ride Along and the Jump Street movies, Cube plays an excellent straight man to his co-stars’ bumbling, over the top characters – and those are exactly the characters Charlie Day has a gift for playing.

Day previously worked with New Line on Horrible Bosses 2 and the upcoming Warner Bros./New Line comedy Vacation. He’s currently at work on the 11th season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Ice Cube’s N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton arrives in theaters August 14th.

What do you guys think? Do you see potential in this double act? Excited to watch them duke it out? Sound off in the comments.
