“Lost” is almost out of time. The final episode will air (assuming there are no more strikes or other unforeseen events) in May 2010 and then ABC needs a replacement for its bona fide genre hit. ABC was cool enough to let creators Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have an end-date and the ability to tell a complete story rather than run the show into the ground so I think ABC deserves a hit. Hopefully they’ll find it with a show they’re currently developing with David S. Goyer and Brannon Braga, “Flash Forward”.

Not a remake of the delightful Disney sitcom starring Ben Foster and Jewel Staite, “Flash Forward” is based on the sci-fi novel by Robert J. Sawyer and chronicles the chaos that ensues after everyone in the world passes out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds and has a mysterious vision of the future that changes lives forever. Of course, I imagine folks just blacking out for 147 seconds would yield chaos as planes would fall out of the sky, traffic collisions would skyrocket, and surgical procedures would probably not go as planned. ABC is currently in talks with Joseph Fiennes and John Cho to star in the project.

But the story does not center on a hapless surgeon but rather on FBI agent Mark Banford (Fiennes) who is patching up life and marriage after a battle with alcoholism. During his blackout, Banford receives a harrowing vision of a murky future that might spell disaster for himself and his loved ones. Cho would play Dominic Witten, Banford’s FBI partner and friend. His blackout was an absolute blank which makes him think that he may be murdered in the future. Witten is a ray of sunshine.
