Franco Will HOWL

While I think Richard Jenkins had the best year for an actor in 2008, James Franco wasn’t too far behind. While Golden Globe nominations can be silly, his was well-deserved for his work in “Pineapple Express” and he also did great supporting work in “Milk” as well. The guy can really do it all and he’s going to give us even more as he’s signed on to play beat poet Allen Ginsberg in “Howl”.

The film is not named after Ginsberg’s rampant lycanthropy but his poem “Howl” and the resulting obscenity trial over it. In a way, that’s kind of adorable that at one point America had trials over obscenity. Variety also reports that the poem itself will be in the film and will be “an animated re-imagining” which sounds very cool.

Click here to get the audio of Ginsberg reading the poem. It’s not bad. It’s probably NSFW, though (oh, how far we have and have not come).
